In recent times it has become harder for young people to make money and enter the employment market with the high unemployment rate. And as such, jobs which used to be mainly the domain of younger people like waiting tables and walking dogs, has been overtaken by older people desperate for money and a paycheck.
There is however a better way for teenagers to make money in this poor economy, and that is with the internet and a computer. And it need not be hard or take a lot of time out of their day, since they will most likely be going to school.
In fact, many successful internet entrepreneurs today are still teenagers and they thrive in the make money online environment.
One way teens can make some extra money online is to sell items on eBay. They buy items cheap at a yard sale and then sell them for profit through an auction. Very simple and quite easy to do, requiring little experience.
Another way for teens to make some extra money on the internet is to complete surveys. It doesn't pay that much, but provides the teen with a little money for a small amount of effort. Also, some survey companies pay out with vouchers, so the child can pick up items in store like DVDs and computer games. One word of warning is the parent should investigate the survey company, because there are scams as well as legitimate companies operating.
One final way for teens to make extra money is to start a blog. Blogging is very easy to start if they use a Blogger blog, or a little more involved if they decide to use WordPress hosted on their own domain. WordPress is only a one click install and you can do so much more with it than with Blogger.
On the blog to monetize the blog, the teen can simply put AdSense ads through the site and earn money every time a visitor comes to their blog and clicks on an AdSense ad. In this way, the teenager will be writing about what they are interested in and making money at the same time. Definitely a win/win situation.
In conclusion, making money online as a teenager need not be difficult and at worst, the teen will make a little money to buy small items that they want. At best, the teen might find they have discovered a career path and make the internet their main source of income for many years to come.
